9 Aphrodisiac Recipes to Make this Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

We have all heard of the classic aphrodisiacs, but who can afford/really knows how to cook oysters? These simple aphrodisiac recipe options are packed full of the sensual sustenance, and are bound to impress your Valentine’s date.

Appetizers:

Sweet Potato Fries

While sweet potato fries are totally delicious, not many people know of their arousing properties. Sweet potatoes contain lots of potassium, which can help combat erectile dysfunction due to its role in regulating high blood pressure. They also have a fair amount of vitamin A, which can help boost fertility in women

Spring Strawberry Salad

This salad contains strawberries, the classic seductive snack. Studies have shown that just the colour red increases sexual stimulation, but strawberries also contain high levels of vitamin C which aid blood flow, if you catch my drift.

Arugula is full of vitamins and minerals that help our bodies block out substances that decrease our sex drive.

Chipotle Guacamole

Our association with avocados and sex dates back to the Aztecs. Avocados are full of vitamins and minerals and high in Omega-3 fatty acids; mood boosters that may make us more open to getting it on.

Dinner:

Pesto is one of the most sensual foods, with the three main ingredients; basil, pine nuts and garlic all being aphrodisiacs. Basil increases circulation, pine nuts increase testosterone and garlic helps blood flow down there.

Fried Rice

This restaurant-style fried rice contains garlic and ginger, which both work to stimulate our circulatory system.

Spaghetti

This spin on classic pasta contains garlic and chili pepper: two natural aphrodisiacs. The recipe tells you to use gluten-free edamame spaghetti, but if you’d rather regular spaghetti it’s an easy swap.

Garlic is supposed to increase circulation throughout the body, which can act as a natural Viagra. Eating chili pepper mimics many of the biological responses that your body experiences during sex. Because of the spice, your heart rate increases and you may become flushed, making it the perfect aphrodisiac recipe to cook for your special someone.

Dessert:

Red Wine Chocolate Cupcakes

A study conducted in Florence, Italy discovered that consumption of red wine was highly correlated with women’s libido and sex drive. Women who drank a couple glasses a day had much higher levels of arousal than those who did not. Red wine also contains antioxidants which promote healthy blood flow

Chocolate has many stimulating properties and one study even found that women who consumed chocolate once a day had more active sex lives.

Dark Chocolate Avocado Truffles

These babies are packed with aphrodisiacs. Avocados are filled with vitamin E which increases energy, and chocolate is known to increase our serotonin production, the chemical which makes us feel pleasure.

Chocolate Strawberry Waffles

The shape of these waffles alone should put you in the Valentine’s mood, however, the dark chocolate and strawberries also both contain antioxidants, which can lessen inflammation in the body and help make us want to get down and dirty.

Now that you have some inspiration, set the mood with some red wine and enjoy a few of these recipes this February 14th.
