How to Make Zucchini Noodles Without a Spiralizer

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Texas chapter.

Although they didn’t make this list of the 20 biggest food trends of 2016, vegetable noodles have been huge. Making veggie noodles usually requires a tool called the spiralizer, which turns your veggie into spiraled strands that look more like noodles. Not everyone has a spiralizer though, so here’s a really quick and easy way to make your own veggie noodles.

#SpoonTip: Zucchini is the best for making noodles because the flavor isn’t overwhelming — you can taste more of the yummy sauce and less of the vegetable.

You will need:

1. Cheese grater with large openings

2. Zucchini (or other vegetable of your own choosing)

How to make the vegetable noodles:

1. Wash your zucchini and cut off the ends. This will ensure even slices of noodles when you slice it through the grater.

2. Put the side of the zucchini on the cheese grater and slide it so that the whole side stays on the grater while you move it. This will make your zucchini pieces look long and more noodle-like.

3. Top with your favorite pasta sauce (or try this pumpkin sauce — trust us, it’s delicious) and enjoy!
