Out with the old, in with the new. This might not be the exciting summer we had hoped for, but that isn’t stopping us from finding our new favorite snacks and desserts while we’re staying home. We’ve tried a bunch recently, and we couldn’t resist sharing them with you.
When brand representatives reached out about these products, we couldn’t wait to get the packages and shake up our snack routines.
Berg Bites
No: dairy, gluten, soy. Vegan.
Daniel Berg started Berg Bites while he was a student at George Washington University. The company is now his full-time job and the products are available online and in stores across the country. They sell four flavors of Oat N’ Energy Bars and four flavors of Oat N’ Energy Bites. Each bar is about the size of a credit card and includes 14 grams of protein and 300 calories. Each pack of bites comes with five nickel-sized bites which add up to 6 grams of protein and 190 calories.
Our recommendation: We liked the Oat N’ Energy bites. Our favorite is banana bread flavor which really tastes like a loaf of chocolate chip banana bread.
Choczero
No: dairy or soy. Keto.
Choczero sells high-quality, sugar-free products. Everything is sweetened with monk fruit instead of artificial sweeteners and their cocoa beans are sourced from slavery-free and fair-trade suppliers in South America. Choczero products are also palm oil-free. They sell everything from peanut butter cups, to chocolate bark and flavored syrups.
Our recommendation: We got to try the new peanut butter cups, which are the perfect substitution for someone following the Keto diet who doesn’t want to break the rules for a Reese’s.
Daiya
No: dairy, gluten, or soy. Vegan.
We’ve already tried Daiya breakfast burritos, pizza, and ranch dressing, so their new ice cream bars had a certain standard to meet. The bars certainly meet that standard, especially in the middle of summer. There are four flavors: chocolate fudge crunch, classic vanilla bean, salted caramel swirl, and espresso coffee. The ice cream is coconut-based, and each box comes with three bars.
Our recommendation: It’s hard to dislike ice cream, but if we had to pick a flavor, it would be the classic vanilla bean. There’s just something so soothing about biting through the chocolate shell and into the creamy vanilla ice cream.
Flax4Life
No: dairy, gluten, or nuts.
No gluten, no problem. All Flax4life products are gluten-free and made with flax. They make brownies, cakes, muffins, granola, and toaster buns. The family-owned business is coming up on its 20th birthday. About 10 years ago, several members of the family learned they had Celiac Disease and the company began to only make gluten-free products. They are based in Bellingham, WA, and donate “uglies” or extra products to the Bellingham Food Bank and the Lighthouse Mission.
Our recommendation: We’re partial to the chocolate brownies, but since everything is dairy, gluten, and nut-free, you really can’t go wrong.
