Winter is officially here and it can be tough on the body. Skin can suffer a lot during winter since it’s exposed to the elements the most. While extremely heavy coats, warm scarves, and mittens help protect the body, there is no article of clothing that will shield skin from the cold temperatures. However, eating and drinking these foods will help fight off those unwanted skin conditions that come with the cold.
Redness: Green Tea
Baby, it’s cold outside, and that means for many, skin can get red from the temperatures. Drinking green tea, which is high in antioxidants, has been proven to reduce redness and inflammation that can come from cold weather and wind.
Dryness: Dark Chocolate
For many, cold weather can cause dry skin because the air draws the moisture from the skin. In studies, dark chocolate or cocoa powder (in moderation) has been used to increase skin’s hydration.
Breakouts: Oatmeal
Sometimes during the long, never-ending months of winter, skin protests in the form of a breakout. Making a face mask out of oatmeal extracts the excess oil in pores that causes breakouts.
Eczema: Salmon
Salmon is full of omega-3 fatty acid, which reduces dryness and flakiness that can cause eczema and keeps the skin supple and moisturized. Not to mention it’s pretty tasty, too.
Even though the winter seems like it lasts forever, it does (thankfully) come to an end. And I personally believe that by eating these foods and protecting your skin, it may even go by a little faster.
