Everybody knows that Halloween is the best holiday to ever exist. Why? Free candy — college kids live for free food. Some people (the ones we love) are super into the Halloween spirit and hand out the best candy possible, while the grumpy ones give out the worst. Here’s a list of classic Halloween candies ranked from worst to best to look for (or avoid) this year.
10. Dots
If you’re looking for an overly sugary, chewy candy that will stick to your teeth, then definitely give out Dots. If you’re a chocolate lover like I am, definitely leave the Dots at the store with the rest of some of these treats.
9. Almond Joy
There’s definitely no joy in this candy bar — the sickly sweet almond-coconut combination is hard not to choke on. Don’t get me wrong, I love almonds and I love coconut, but together? Pass.
8. Gummy Body Parts
If you’re one of those people that can get away with eating gummies shaped like eyeballs or feet, then hats off to you. Eating this Halloween treat makes me feel like a lowkey cannibal and who can feel good about that? Leave this treat at the store for the young kids dressing up as monsters, or buy some normal gummy candy.
7. Starburst
If you hand out the mini packs of Starburst, you are asking for someone to have their feelings hurt. The hope I feel when opening up a two-piece Starburst pack goes down hill as soon as there isn’t a pink Starburst inside. I know I’m not the only one.
6. Candy Corn
Do not be tricked by these naughty treats. The sugar content alone should be enough to make you stay away. If you’re looking for Halloween candy to give away this year, try some of these awesome candies instead, but for all of our sakes, please leave the candy corn as a table decoration.
#SpoonTip: If you’re feeling historical on this wonderful holiday, read about how candy corn came to be.
5. Three Musketeers
As we get further down our list, the quality of candy goes up, starting with this chocolate bar. Three Musketeers is the perfect candy to keep you going all night trick-or-treating. Its whipped mousse consistency is hard to hate and your trick-or-treaters will thank you.
4. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
If you know a treat whose peanut buttery goodness can measure up to Reese’s, I must try it because right now, Reese’s stands at number one. You can never go wrong with handing out mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
3. Junior Mints
Mini boxes of Junior Mints are so fun to see in my Halloween bag, and I think it’s a great, safe candy to give away. The awkwardly shaped mint melts in your mouth (in a good way), and leaves your breath smelling fresh and clean.
2. Snickers
I really hope you’re not allergic to nuts, because if so, you’re seriously missing out. The Snickers 2016 Super Bowl commercial doesn’t lie—it really does help with crankiness. If you’re having a long Halloween night out and need an energy boost, grab a Snickers from your bucket of candy.
1. Kit Kat
If ripping a Kit Kat bar in half doesn’t give you as much joy as putting on your Halloween costume, I seriously don’t know how you’ve been living your life. Kit Kat’s crunchy wafer takes the lead in any candy ranking ever, so make sure you’re handing them out on Halloween night.
Although any candy is better than no candy, there are definitely some candies that just stand above the rest. You don’t agree? I’ll trade you my Almond Joy for your Kit Kat.
