If you haven’t heard of Karlie Kloss by now, you must not run in any of the multitude of social spheres she occupies. This supermodel-coder-dancer-VS angel-baker seemingly does it all. She’s started a scholarship program for high school women who want to pursue coding, she recently enrolled as a student at NYU and she is also one of the female power players that comprise Taylor Swift’s girl squad.
To top off her extensive resume (and make us all look even worse), Karlie has even teamed up with Momofuku Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi to create (or should we say kreate?) her own line of baked goods, appropriately deemed “Karlie’s Kookies.”
The original Kookie has only 10 “klean” (okay, we’ll stop) ingredients and boasts a dairy-free, egg-free, refined sugar-free label. Since it’s inception in 2012, models have been seen toting these kookies around with them to model castings and runway shows, turning this baked good into a sort of fashionable food.
But how good can they really taste? No sugar? No eggs? Until I ventured over to NYC’s Milk Bar one winter afternoon, I didn’t realize how truly potent they are. On top of being fairly wholesome and healthy, these things taste amazing too and I quickly became addicted.
Unfortunately I don’t live in New York City and while you can order Kookies online, they are pretty pricey. So I decided to experiment with the recipe and try to whip up my own batch of Kookies. What ensued was a concoction that tasted exactly like the original, though maybe slightly more crumbly.
