This Monthly Wine Club Will Be Your Go-To Gift This Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UVA chapter.

The holidays are fast approaching, but with final exams and papers taking up all our time, presents are the last thing on any college student’s mind. After exams are finished, the last thing anyone wants to do is wander the mall for hours on end, looking for that perfect gift for your parent, friend, or significant other.

For all of you legal 21+ homies out there, I have your solution. Bright Cellars is a monthly wine club based out of Milwaukee that’s putting a cool new twist on the wine subscription trend. What makes it different? I’m glad you asked.

1. Personalization

Bright Cellars is unique because of their personalized process. Once you sign up, you take a quiz that measures your wine preferences based on 18 different attributes. The algorithm was created by two MIT grads, so you know it’s hella accurate. It’s like taking one of those Buzzfeed quizzes, but at the end, there’s actual alcohol.

Once you’ve taken the quiz, four wines are then chosen just for you based on your scores. Bright Cellars literally acts as your own personal sommelier. And don’t worry, if you don’t love one of the bottles sent to you, you can work with a wine concierge (how do I get that job?) and select a free bottle of your choice for the next time you order.

2. It’s More Than Just Wine

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Bright Cellars also offers a cheese subscription, because what’s a bottle of wine without a nice cheese pairing? They even have a quiz that will tell you what cheeses pair best with your taste profile so you can impress your friends by casually explaining that no, you shouldn’t be eating cheddar cheese with that sauv blanc. Despite sometimes drinking wine from a bag, we are not heathens, ugh.

3. It’s Affordable

What does this magical delivery service cost, you ask? One month is $60, which comes to about $15 per bottle. I realize that many of us can barely feed ourselves without severely depleting our bank accounts each month, so SURPRISE: Spoon-Virginia has teamed up with Bright Cellars to give you an insane deal. By going to this link, you can get a month’s subscription for only $30. That is FOUR bottles of wine for only $30, people. You can also go to this link and get 50% off a month’s cheese subscription. Joy to the freaking world.

So there you have it. You now have the perfect gift for everyone on your list. Seriously, if my mom didn’t already subscribe, this is what I would get her for Christmas. Happy holidays!
