These Drinks May Look Fancy, But Cost Less Than $5 to Make

As the warm weather settles in, making cold, fruity, alcoholic drinks just seems so right. But far too often, we as students can’t afford to buy the necessary ingredients for drinks. Instead, some of us think it’s cheaper to buy one at a restaurant or bar.

But I promise that the following drinks are super refreshing, light, easy to make and cheap. After I did the math, I made all of them for less than five dollars. So take a look and impress your friends with your mad skills.

FANCY DRINKS

Mars Explosion

Aptly named, this exotic orange juice and vodka blend both tastes and looks amazing. Plus the fresh smell of oranges and the sweetness of grenadine make this the perfect afternoon refreshment.

Ingredients:
6 tablespoons orange juice, chilled
3 tablespoons vodka, frozen
Ice
¾ tablespoon white rum, chilled
1 dash grenadine, chilled
Cherry or orange peel twist, to decorate

Directions:

1. Stir orange juice and vodka over ice.

2. Strain into a champagne glass.

3. Stir rum and grenadine together and pour slowly into the middle of the juice so the red color spreads outward.

4. Dress with a cocktail cherry or a twist of orange peel.

Rasberrini

This rasberrini is for hardcore raspberry fans who love the authentic taste of fresh raspberries. The deep red color and bright lemon smell add depth to this often overlooked gem.

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons frozen raspberries
Good squeeze fresh lemon juice
Ice
6 tablespoons vodka, frozen

Directions:

1. Crush the raspberries in a bowl.

2. Strain well.

3. Collect 4 tablespoons of the strained raspberry juice.

4. Pour vodka into an iced martini glass and add the raspberry juice.

5. Decorate with a lemon slice.

Caribbean Blues

Ok, this Caribbean Blues just looks appealing. The deep lagoon blue is intriguing, and the taste is one that is very unique and will keep you guessing what it is and coming back for more.

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons white rum
1 ½ tablespoons blue curaçao
Good squeeze fresh lime juice
¾ tablespoon sugar syrup
Ice
Club soda
Frozen lime slice, to decorate

Directions:

1. Mix the white rum, blue curaçao, lime juice and sugar syrup in a large glass with a few ice cubes.

2. To make homemade sugar syrup, boil 1 part water, then add 1 part sugar and let completely dissolve.

3. Fill with club soda to taste.

4. Dress with a frozen slice of lime.

Vodka Sunrise

Surely this drink will impress your friends. Demonstrate your refined chemistry skills as you separate grenadine, vodka and orange juice into a unique array of colors. Be proud, then drink up!

3. Wait for the layers to separate.

4. Enjoy.
