Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Petra Brock

Start by preheating the over to 375 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set out the frozen puff pastry and allow to totally defrost before unfolding or using it.

  2. Petra Brock

To start the strawberry danish, the first thing you need to do is make the strawberry preserve. Start by cooking the strawberries in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

#SpoonTip: Stir frequently to keep the mixture from sticking or burning in the pan.

  3. Petra Brock

Take the saucepan off of the heat and add in cornstarch, water, and sugar. Return the pan to medium heat and continue stirring. Once again remove from heat and set aside.

  4. Petra Brock

In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine the sugar, vanilla extract, and cream cheese using a hand mixer. Add in butter and powdered sugar, continue to mix on medium.

#SpoonTip: If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can always use a rubber spatula and some elbow grease.

  5. Petra Brock

Once combined, spread the cream cheese filling evening along the centerfold of the pastry, followed by the strawberry preserve. Make sure not put too much of the preserve to ensure that the filling won’t spill out in the baking process.

  6. Petra Brock

Cut the pastry dough in one-inch diagonal lines down either side of the centerfold and fold criss-cross to create a braid pattern.

  7. Petra Brock

To make the egg wash, simply mix together the egg and milk in a small to medium bowl. With a pastry brush, cover the top of the pastry with the egg wash to give it that golden brown color.

  8. Petra Brock

Now your pastry is ready to go! Bake in your 375-degree oven for 15-20 minutes.

  9. Petra Brock

While it is baking, grab a small bowl and combine the powdered sugar and milk to make the glaze. Stir using a whisk or hand mixer on medium-high, add in the vanilla extract, and mix until it is smooth with no bumps.

Once the pastry is golden brown and done baking, allow it to rest on the pan for 5 minutes. Then drizzle with the homemade glaze and enjoy with some coffee and friends!

I enjoy baking and I am attending UNT to study restaurant management in hopes of one day opening my own bakery!
