DIY Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UGA chapter.

If the thought of the peppermint mocha disappearing from the Starbucks menu after the holidays gives you heart palpitations, I have your cure.

This DIY peppermint mocha is all you need to feel warm & fuzzy no matter what time of year it is. Because the recipe uses a crockpot, you can make a big batch at one time to keep on hand. (You never know when a holiday drink craving will hit you.)

#SpoonTip: These peppermint desserts are the perfect sidekicks to your Starbucks taste-alike.

To make the peppermint syrup, bring the water and sugar to a boil and stir until sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat, add the peppermint extract and stir to combine.

In a crockpot, combine milk, coffee, chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of the peppermint syrup. Let it cook on low for 2 hours (stir occasionally).

Serve it up in your favorite mug and top with whipped cream (or whatever your heart desires).

Lexi is studying journalism and music business at the University of Georgia and will graduate in 2018. Her love language is food (especially cereal), and she’s not afraid to make a mess or two in the kitchen. Tortilla chips, sweet potato fries, pumpkin bread, and pretty much any other carb (she doesn’t discriminate) make her foodie world go round. Consuming raw fish and meat gives her anxiety.
