A Review of Betty Crocker Oat Bar Mix

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

There’s nothing that feels quite so reminiscent of my childhood baking adventures as Betty Crocker mixes. From chocolate chip cookies to devil’s food cake, the mess-making possibilities were endless. I’m in college now, but Betty Crocker is still a pantry staple, because every college student on a time crunch needs fast, easy sugar. When I saw these new oat bar mixes on a grocery run, I knew I had to try them. Here’s why you should too.

1. They’re quick to make

Since each pouch only needs 2 ingredients and a little mixing, these bars are a seriously time-saving treat—they were ready to go into the oven in just 5 minutes. These chewy, chocolatey bars were ready to eat 20 minutes later. It doesn’t get much better than that!

2. They taste amazing

If there’s anything that these bars taught me, it’s that you can never go wrong with Betty Crocker. The chocolate chip oat bars were deliciously soft and chewy, with just enough chocolate chips to sweeten the bars without overpowering the other flavors. The oats gave the bars a wonderful texture, and the combination tasted so good that the bars were gone minutes after they came out of the oven.

The coconut white chip bars were sweeter than the chocolate chip bars, but the coconut flakes made the bars even chewier and added texture. The white chips were a nice break from the traditional milk chocolate too.

3. They’re versatile

The mix comes with chocolate chips, but these bars are so versatile that you can add anything you want, and still have them taste amazing (think raisins, peanut butter chips, Oreos, etc.) The mix serves as a great base for bars that will surprise you every time.

There’s nothing like a Betty Crocker mix for fast, delicious sugar in a pinch, and these oat bars are no exception. Make them and eat them days after, but good luck getting them to last that long.
