These Game of Thrones Treats Will Make Your Finale Party Even More Epic Than The Battle of the Bastards

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Conn chapter.

We are all eagerly (and impatiently) awaiting the grand finale for Season 6 of Game of Thrones. With the date fast approaching, it’s time to plan the viewing party of the season finale. And what’s a party without food? Better question: what’s a Season 6 finale party without Game of Thrones-themed food?

It’s a party not worth having, that’s what it is. Below is a list of some awesome GoT-themed foods that will satisfy both the casual episode-watcher and the hardcore book-reading fan.

These themed pizzas are a fun way to represent everyone’s house with a meal no one can hate. It requires a bit of artistic work and some time, but there’s no need for perfection. If it didn’t come out as great as you thought, you can always add a sign with the house name and sigil for clarification above the pizza.

Even though all the houses are represented, it’s a good way to remind your guests that it’s a game in the end. And in the words of Cersei Lannister, “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.”

Apple Rolls

If you’re planning a more role-playing type party, you may want an atmosphere that feels more like Westeros. Apple rolls are a good way to do that. They’re simple and elegant enough to represent a dessert from the world of Game of Thrones. With these, it feels like you are joining Lady Margaery and Lady Olenna Tyrell in the gardens of King’s Landing for a nice chat.

White Walker Drinks

Of course, you’ll need drinks to accompany the snacks, so keep your guests chilled out with a nice drink inspired by White Walkers. After all, there are more threats beyond the wall than just the Wildlings. There are two versions of the drink to entertain all sorts of guests. If one of your guests maybe had a few too many alcoholic White Walker drinks, feel free to laugh as they start to head towards their drunken state and say, “And now his watch has ended…”

Battle Axe Cupcakes

As we all know, Game of Thrones is anything but puppies and rainbows. There’s blood (a lot of it), so it seems right a dessert at the party reflects this. These battle axe cupcakes are a perfect fit for the table. They are reminiscent of the Red Wedding, and although they’re delicious, I’m sure the Northern sympathizers among your guests will remind you: the North remembers.

Lemon Cake

Lemon cake is a wonderful way of making the party feel more like King’s Landing. It’s a great way to appeal to the noblemen and women among your guests. This delicacy takes time to prepare, but will be rewarding for all who enjoy it. What better way to represent House Stark than having Sansa’s favorite food?

Apple-Cranberry Cider

A Lannister always pays his debts, and a Lannister also enjoys some wine in the Red Keep. Although wine can always be provided for those of age, a non-alcoholic beverage should be offered, so why not have some apple-cranberry cider? It’s a fruity drink that can still reflect the nature of House Lannister and the Red Keep.

Chocolate Dragon Eggs

What’s a party without dragons? Show your allegiance to House Targaryen by displaying Khaleesi’s dragon eggs. Admittedly, this is probably the most difficult out of all the desserts listed above, but that also makes it the funnest one to try out. Once it’s out for your guests to see, remind them that Daenerys Stormborn, of the blood of old Valyria, will take what is hers. “With fire and blood…I will take it.”

Do not stress over the perfection of these desserts and drinks. At the end of the day, we’re all just watching the clock, waiting for the finale to begin. If you do decide to tackle one of these recipes and need some help, remember the motivational words of Tyrion Lannister, “Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”

I am a creative writer that enjoys food a little too much. Writing is my passion, and it's incredible, especially with chips and dip on the side.
