The few days before holidays in college are always filled with hopes and excitement that just maybe somebody remembered your existence and decided to send you a care package.
If you’re one of the lucky few whose mom attends a seasonal “care package party” with her fellow college-kid-missing-mom-friends, count your blessings. If your mom decided it was finally time to mail you to a box full of sugary goodness, count your blessings.
If not, you’re gonna need to make yourself some of these gooey bars of greatness. I promise they’ll fix any issue: bad grade, tough final, break up, jealousy for a lack of care packages….anything.

Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 16

1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 ½ cups mix-ins (chopped candy, chocolate chips, nuts, etc)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Line 8×8 pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
3. In a medium bowl, gently mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
4. In a large bowl, whisk brown sugar, melted butter, and vanilla.
5. Add egg to sugar mixture and mix well.
6. Gently stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
7. Fold in mix-ins. (I used a bag of these.)
8. Spread batter into prepared pan.
9. Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned on top.
10. Remove from oven, let cool until you can’t take it anymore, and cut into bars.
Recipe adapted from Sally’s Baking Addiction.
These are literally the solution to any problem, so get baking. Bring ’em to a group meeting and bribe your way to the top. Bring ’em to a teacher and bribe your way to an A. Bring ’em to a boy (or a girl, if you boys are baking) and bribe your way to a date. Bring ’em to your room and…eat your stress away.
You won’t regret it. Ever.
Like this? We figured. Why don’t you pin it?
Did the bribe work the first time? Need another? Look no further:
