A Definitive Ranking of Microwaveable Foods From The Cellar Market

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at SCU chapter.

When the lines at Benson are too long, the walk to Safeway too far, and cooking a meal in a kitchen too much work, there is only one meal option left; the microwavable foods section in The Cellar Market

The Cellar is always a quick trip, but with so many microwavable food options, it can be tough to know what is actually good. In the name of finding a fast and delicious meal, I tested out 5 different Cellar finds and ranked them 1-5 based on their Cellar price, time, and taste.

1. Vigilant Eats Superfood Cereal

These cereal cups take oatmeal to the next level. Especially tasty with a spoonful of peanut butter and blueberries (or your toppings of choice), this meal is both delicious and filled with ingredients that you can actually pronounce.

Cost: $4.49

Rating: 5/5

2. Kraft Easy Mac

Kraft mac n’ cheese is a cult favorite for a reason. These convenient cups make whipping up your favorite comfort food a breeze. Plus, this dish is easy to get creative with. Click here for ways to amp up your mac.

Prep/cook time: 4 minutes

Cost: $2.09

Rating: 5/5

3. Amy’s Garden Vegetable Lasagna

Indulging in your favorite pasta dish just became relatively guilt-free. Made with organic gluten free rice pasta and loaded with vegetables, Amy’s lasagna makes a hearty and healthy meal. However, I would recommend heating it up for a little longer than suggested.

Prep/cook time: 7 minutes

Cost: $6.59

Rating: 4/5

4. Annie Chun’s Noodle Teriyaki Bowl

foods pasta spaghetti

While these bowls are simple to make and are relatively large, the sauce tasted too much like BBQ sauce and overall was not the noodle bowl or the microwavable food option I was looking for. Opting for a creative spin on ramen noodles might be the better option here.

Prep/cook time: 4 minutes

Cost: $4.19

Rating: 3/5

5. TGI Fridays Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla Rolls

These little rollups come six to a box, so while a fair amount for the price, these frozen wraps have an aftertaste of chemicals that I just couldn’t ignore. If you’re looking to satisfy a tortilla craving, try out these dining-hall friendly quesadilla recipes instead.

Cost: $5.29
