How to Make a Poached Egg in Your Microwave

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at RPI chapter.

I’ve never eaten a poached egg, so I decided to take the easy way out and use a microwave to test the limits of being a college student to prepare something other than scrambled eggs. Many recipes such as making a poached egg with plastic wrap or this insanely cool way of making a crispy poached egg make use of a stove top, which not all college students have. Hopefully, this  how-to recipe will show you how easy it is to make a delicious microwave poached egg.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Jessy Kauffman

Add 1/2 cup of water to small microwavable bowl.

  2. Jessy Kauffman

    Crack egg into bowl.

  3. Place bowl into microwave for about 60-80 seconds, depending on the power of your microwave. As long as the egg doesn’t explode, it will be okay.

  4. Jessy Kauffman

Remove bowl from microwave, and use a spoon (not a fork, duh) to remove the egg from the bowl (water not included).

  5. Jessy Kauffman

At this point, you can be finished— just add a pinch of salt, pepper (and fajita seasoning) and enjoy! If you are feeling fancy, continue to the next steps.

  6. Jessy Kauffman

Take your favorite tomato, preferably a plump one, and cut it horizontally approximately 1/3 of the way down from the top. Scoop out the insides of the tomato to make it look like a bowl itself.

Place egg in tomato, and voila! Bone apple tea! Your meal is complete, and now you can amaze your friends with your delicious looking egg entree.

There you have it, your microwave poached egg is complete and ready to be eaten.
