Instructions

  1. Caroline Early

Follow the instructions on your favorite box of brownie mix, or use a recipe from scratch. Mine said to combine the water, vegetable oil, and egg in a medium sized bowl. Don’t forget to preheat the oven.

  2. Caroline Early

Slowly add brownie mix until fully combined. Make sure you don’t see any lumps.

  3. Caroline Early

Add 2 tablespoons rum and mix well. Grease a pan and pour the batter into the pan. If you’re really into boozy baking, now might be a good time to sneak a sip of the rum.

  4. Caroline Early

Follow the baking instructions on your brownie recipe. Mine were in the oven for 40 minutes at 350°F.

  5. Caroline Early

As soon as you remove the brownies from the oven, brush 1/4 cup rum over the top to keep the brownies boozy and moist.

  6. Caroline Early

While the brownies are cooling, make the rum buttercream icing. Mix butter and 3 tablespoons rum until fully combined, and then slowly add powdered sugar. Be careful that the powdered sugar doesn’t fly out of the mixing bowl and make a mess.

  7. Caroline Early

Spread icing on the cooled brownies and serve.
