Show Your Pride with These Rainbow Cookies

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Puget Sound chapter.

June, as recognized by MOST presidents, is officially pride month in the United States. Bill Clinton was the first to acknowledge pride month in 2000 in order to recognize, “the joys and sorrows that the gay and lesbian movement has witnessed and the work that remains to be done.” On June 28th, 1969, police raided a gay bar in NYC. At this bar, Stonewall Inn, the LGBTQ community fought back for their rights. Today, cities all over the country take part in parades and festivals to celebrate all forms of love. What better way to show your love than with these rainbow cookies!

Instructions

  1. Emma Brant

Follow the link in the intro (linked to the words u0022rainbow cookiesu0022) for the best Nestle chocolate chip cookies. I did everything as they did, except I substituted Crisco for butter in order to help them keep their shape and create a softer cookie.

  2. Emma Brant

Separate the dough evenly into 6 bowls.

  3. Emma Brant

Add food coloring to each bowl. Ensure each is mixed well. (I used six colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple)

  4. Emma Brant

Scoop dough into tablespoon sized balls and space out on a baking sheet. The dough will expand, so make sure there is enough room.

  5. Emma Brant

Bake for about 9-11 minutes, adding time if needed, until barely golden brown. Then, most importantly, enjoy and devour!

While these rainbow cookies are easy to make, they’re also sure to impress everyone at your next pride party. If you’re interested in looking for more places to flaunt your rainbow pride, check out this Gay Pride Event Calendar. No matter how you celebrate, always remember that love is love
