10 Mason Jar Desserts That Will Make You Want To Have A Picnic

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Portsmouth chapter.

Summer is the perfect season for picnics at the park, by the beach or even in your own garden. One major issue with picnics, however, is the amount of waste they create. So how can this waste be minimized? Simple: make desserts in mason jars so that they can easily be transported and reused! (Not to mention they look super adorable and your friends will be very impressed). You can also make great meals in mason jars, perfect for on-the-go. Here are 10 mason jar desserts that will make you want to go on a picnic.

1. S’mores

S’mores are an iconic summer dessert, perfect when you’re sitting by the campfire. However, when you combine marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate pudding in a mason jar, it’s a perfect treat that you can take anywhere, no campfire needed!

2. Cake

Do you have leftover cake scraps and buttercream? Have no fear, just stack them up in your jar and you have a beautiful and delicious dessert.

3. Cheesecake

Cheesecakes can be really messy to bring to gatherings because of their crumbly crust, so this not only minimizes waste, but mess too.

4. Banana Pudding

Anyone who has tried Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding knows that it is addictive. If you don’t live in NYC, here’s a recipe for banana pudding which can easily be transported in your mason jar.

5. Cinnamon Roll

What’s better than a single serve cinnamon roll in a mason jar? Very little, I can guarantee.

6. Brownies

Gooey brownies on a sunny day sounds like a dream. Make these and be prepared for the best picnic ever.

7. Parfait

Parfaits are really healthy and great for the summer. Not to mention you can customize them with homemade granola, berries you like and any kind of yoghurt you prefer.

8. Pie

When berries are in abundance a great way to use them up is to make pie, and how cute is it in a mason jar? plus, if you’re more into the filling than the crust, it’s definitely a win-win situation.

9. Crème Brûlée

Are you having a fancy picnic? If not, do you want to bring something fancy? Crème brûlée is not only easy to make, but really delicious and impressive.

10. Tiramisu

This classic Italian dessert cannot be beat! Mascarpone, coffee and ladyfingers make a really decadent treat that gets better the longer it sits. You’re definitely going to want this at your next picnic.

Plan a picnic with your friends and family this summer and get baking!
