Easter, like almost all American holidays, revolves around eating candy and chocolate. For this reason, people who want to stick to their health and fitness goals often feel like they’re missing out on the holiday season by choosing not to eat junk food. To make up for this, I made a list of five healthy Easter snacks so you can feel festive while staying fit.
1. Greek Yogurt Deviled Eggs
Deviled Eggs are an Easter classic—so much so that it would hardly feel like a holiday without them. Rather than cutting them out of your diet in an attempt to eat well, healthify them by using greek yogurt instead of mayo. Not only are these deviled eggs better for you, but they also have a really nice, creamy texture and a little extra flavor.
#SpoonTip: To make these eggs more Easter themed, you can turn them into chicks with little pieces of carrots and olives.
2. Carrot Cake Bites
One of my favorite healthy Easter snacks are these carrot cake bites because they have all of the delicious sweetness of carrot cake without the inevitable sugar crash. These no-bake treats are simple to make and are made with lots of good-for-you ingredients.
#Spoon Tip: To customize your carrot cake bites, you can mix in some mini chocolate chips, roll them in coconut flakes, or even dip them in some greek yogurt frosting.
3. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Egg
While it may be a bit of a stretch to call these chocolate peanut butter eggs “health food”, they are much healthier (and might I add better tasting) than their packaged alternative. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants, peanut butter is a good source of healthy fats, and coconut oil is the ultimate superfood, so enjoy your chocolate (in moderation)!
#SpoonTip: Before the chocolate hardens, sprinkle your chocolate peanut butter eggs with some sea salt for a sweet and salty treat.
4. Peep Fruit Kabob
Regardless of what your health and fitness goals are, there is no way to resist the adorableness of a Peep on Easter. Instead of just eating a bunch of Peeps, which have very little nutritional benefits, try making Peep kabobs for a healthier Easter snack. This way you’ll at least be getting some good nutrients in you as well.
#SpoonTip: Choose a variety of different fruit to maximize on the nutrients you’re getting and to make your fruit kabob more colorful.
5. Baked Carrots Fries
Carrots are the perfect healthy Easter snack because they fit the theme of the day and they’re good for you. If you want to take your snacking up another level, though, you can turn your carrots into baked carrot fries. Baking your carrots softens them a bit more, giving them the texture of real fries. Plus, it lets you add a little bit more flavor to your carrots.
#SpoonTip: If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also make your own dip to go along with these carrot fries, like this simple recipe for homemade hummus, some tzatziki dip, or even just classic ketchup.
This Easter, whether you’re going to a big Easter party or just celebrating with some family at home, think about making some of these healthy Easter snacks to help balance out some of the chocolate and candy that you’ll inevitably be consuming.
