Impress Your Next Breakfast Guest with this Strawberry Chia Jam

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at McGill chapter.

Anything homemade is more impressive than store-bought. But jam? Who has time for that? Students especially are unlikely to have the equipment or time involved to commit to a preserve-making session.

Chia seeds, the super food everyone is becoming obsessed with, are the solution. Their absorption properties mean that they are a great thickener, often used in puddings like this mango and coconut one. So, using them in jam means that you won’t need a ton of sugar or pectin to get a good consistency, as many other recipes call for.

Although they are small, chia seeds have many great nutritional qualities. Just 2 tablespoons gives you 4 grams of protein and 11 grams of fiber. The seeds are also high in omega-3 fatty acids. Incorporated into your breakfast, they’ll keep you feeling full and energized until lunch.

Toast some bread and impress your friends with this homemade, and healthy, recipe.
