About a week ago I went to happy hour with a few friends at Metate, a local Mexican restaurant on Johnson Avenue. I had never been before and I was mostly enticed by the happy hour margarita deal where drinks are two for one from 4-7 pm during the week. When I opened the drink menu the first thing I saw was a jalapeño frozen margarita and it was love at first sight, or rather love at first sip.
The jalapeño margarita was served with actual pieces of jalapeño mixed in to the frozen margarita goodness. It was pleasantly spicy without being too overpowering, and the coolness of the drink soothed the inevitable burning sensation. In a good way. I left Metate amazed, a little buzzed, and with the insatiable desire to make my own version of a jalapeño margarita without the $8 price tag.
After searching for a manageable recipe and after a little trial and error, I found a winning recipe that will definitely keep you hot in the cold winter months to come.
