Dorm Room Snacks That’ll Make Your RA Wanna Hang

It’s a snow day and aside from humming Frozen’s “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” all day, you are most likely to have a comforting snack, or two, or three. But hey, let’s face it, very few of us will brave leaving the warmth and luxury of our beds to prepare that perfect treat in the communal kitchen. So, for the lazy snow day folk, below you will find three cozy recipes that can be made in three simple steps or less. And here’s an extra perk: you don’t even have to leave your dorm room.

1. Yogurt Berries

While such a treat may not be your initial craving one a cold wintery morning, it is, however, one you may snack on without end and without shame. Frozen yogurt-dipped blueberries are among the healthiest comfort food alternatives, containing vitamins K, C, and B-12, as well as fiber and calcium. Tasting as close to ice cream as you can get without sacrificing nutrition, this frosty bite will not disappoint. And if you’re really into berries and yogurt, you must try this recipe.

Easy

Prep time: 10 minutes (depending on the amount of berries)
Cook time: 2 hours
Total time: 2-3 hours

Ingredients:
1 carton blueberries
1 fruit flavored yogurt (any flavor will do, but I opted the strawberry greek yogurt) 

Directions:

1. After washing the blueberries, dip them into yogurt. You can do this with your hands or use a fork to avoid a mess.

2. After all the blueberries have been dipped, place them on a plate or a tray and set them in the freezer for about 2 hours.

2. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Yes, you can eat chocolate chip cookie dough on a snow day, and no, it is actually completely healthy and does not contain any raw ingredients. Too good to be true? Maybe, but this simple cheat-recipe to making cookie dough will without doubt become one of your go-tos during the winter months, and during any other season for that matter. And here’s five more cookie hacks.

Easy

Prep time: 1 minute
Cook time: 2 minutes
Total time: 3 minutes

Ingredients:
1 plain Greek yogurt
2-3 spoonfuls peanut butter
Chocolate chips, depending on your sweet tooth 

Directions:

1. Add two-three spoonfuls peanut butter (amount varies by preference and strength of flavor) to the yogurt and stir thoroughly.

2. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

3. S’mores Dip

Recently, it seems as though the campfire classic has been replaced by its safety hazard alternative: the dip. And truth be told, there are several reasons as to why this sweet snack is taking the place of the old school goodie. Not only does the dip permit for the comfort of staying indoors, it is also a less messy, frills-free substitute that tastes just as good as the original.

Easy

Prep time: 3 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes
Total time: 5 minutes
 
Ingredients:
Crackers (the Town House Pita Crackers with sea salt are a personal favorite)
1 bar chocolate or 1 bag chocolate chips, preferably dark
1 handful marshmallows
 
Directions:

1. In a bowl of your choice, break the chocolate bar or lay chocolate chips.

2. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for 10-15 seconds. Stir the chocolate and repeat. Do so until the chocolate is not quite liquid but close.
3. Pour the marshmallows onto the melted chocolate, and return to the microwave for 10-20 seconds. While melting, the marshmallows may inflate, but fear not, they will not escape you.

4. Remove from microwave and serve immediately. Just a warning, after you’ve tried this dip, you’re going to want s’more. Seriously though, here’s twelve more things to do with s’mores.
