Why Providence?

Like myself, I think it’s safe to say that everyone in Providence was a bit surprised to find out that the infamous by CHLOE. was coming to town. All of the other locations are found in major cities such as New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and even London, prompting people of the community to ask, “why Providence?”

I think Providence is an ideal local for several reasons; the first being that it is a major college town. Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson and Wales University, Providence College, and Rhode Island College – just to name a few! Located right in the heart of College Hill, this joint is the definition of a college student eatery – fast and convenient, moderately priced, aesthetically pleasing (a.k.a “insta worthy”), and super healthy.

Another reason I think Providence was chosen as a by CHLOE. location is because it is an “up and coming” city. By this I mean that it is large enough to consider a city, but small enough where one can walk the entire distance without getting lost or tired. Many young chefs and artists from the schools mentioned tend to remain in the area after graduating, leaving their mark on the city and making it their own in a modern way. There are many aspects of Providence that emulate larger cities (i.e. Federal Hill is Providence’s Little Italy). Providence attracts tourists for their unique restaurant scene, with a mixture of fine dining, international restaurants, small coffee shops, and so many pop-ups too.

The Menu

Ranging from Spicy Thai Salads, Guac Burgers, all the way to Avocado Pesto Pasta, this menu has it all. And guess what – every single menu item is vegan, plant-based, and kosher! The cool thing is, by CHLOE. utilizes standard vegan ingredients in such a unique and flavorful way and is able to transform them from tasteless tempeh to “apricot siracha glazed tempeh.” One would never even know the difference between a piece of meat and a protein substitute. So now you can eat yo’ greens and enjoy them too!

On top of the lunch and dinner, by CHLOE. also offers brekkie/brunch for all of you brunch fanatics. Oats, Smoothie Bowls, Pancakes, Cinnamon Rolls – whip out that phone and get ready for the “insta take.” Also, by CHLOE. has a selection of “chill” desserts, various beverages, “grab and go” snacks, and even dog treats. In addition to all of the “CHLOE classics” (as I like to call it), there is always a daily specials board featuring unique menu items.

The Atmosphere

Going out to eat is not only about the food anymore, but also the atmosphere the restaurant has to offer. Is it simple and modern, rustic, eclectic, international, etc. The atmosphere in by CHLOE. is very light and modern and definitely appeals to the younger crowd (which is why a location on College Hill is perfect). I was not the only person holding a Nikon when I went to eat there the other day; every person in the restaurant was photographing their food, their friend’s food, the swinging chairs, the white brick walls, and even the cool book wallpaper near the bathroom! One can immediately tell when entering by CHLOE. that every table, light fixture, chair, etc. was picked with purpose, complement one another and the whole scheme/feel of the restaurant.

Now please for the love of god, go and get your vegan on!
