It’s no secret that bananas are nature’s gift to college students. Easily available in the dining hall to throw in your backpack, bananas are a great way to keep potassium levels high and stomachs happy.
Every once in a while, though, people get a little tired of the same old yellow fruit (yes, I am just as shocked as you are). Keep your banana obsession alive by following these tips:
1. Give your cereal some flavor
Kimball recently created some amazing new granola. Skip the usual bowl of Lucky Charms and make a healthier, tastier breakfast out of it. Take a cup of the granola and cut up a banana on top. Scoop out some peanut butter into it, add some milk and voilà – banana peanut butter cereal.
2. Make Nutella toast even better
Add this tasty spread to whole wheat toast and toss on some cut up bananas. Especially for breakfast or for a snack, this tasty trick is a perfect balance of carbs and protein. Enjoy this guilt-free indulgence. (Nutella is made with hazelnuts and nuts are healthy, right?)
3. Create your own Crêpe à la Kimball
Even though making homemade crêpes might seem daunting here on the Hill, with a few substitutions, you’ll be fine dining in no time. Grab a tortilla and lather it with SunButter. Add some cut up banana and drizzle hot fudge on top. Fold it up, pop it in the panini press and you’ll have a little piece of France right in the comfort of Kimball.
4. Make banana ice cream
While ice cream is always a delicious treat, too much can wreak havoc on your waistline. Even worse, some of our lactose-intolerant friends don’t even know the delightfulness of what they’re missing. Drumroll please, we have found an epic solution. Simply freeze bananas and purée them in a blender to create a creamy treat that you’ll never forget.
5. Indulge in a banana split
It’s heavenly. Put some frozen yogurt or ice cream into a cup, top with hot fudge, sprinkles (or cereal if you want to make this healthy…well healthy-ish), strawberries and add a banana on top. Your very own banana split – and you didn’t even have to leave campus for it.
