The Ultimate Guide to LA’s Best Vegan Restaurants

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Harvard chapter.

Los Angeles is famous for its healthy and trendy eats, such as green juices and acai bowls. However, these vegan restaurants are edible proof that vegan doesn’t have to be boring. Forget about basic salads and get ready for burgers, pizza, sushi, and more with this guide to LA’s best vegan restaurants.

1. Cafe Gratitude

With locations all across Los Angeles, Cafe Gratitude is the perfect place to grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Each dish is named after an affirmation (their “I Am Sharing” Nachos are life changing”) and range from healthy grain bowls to indulgent pizzas and burgers. Affirm your self-love and your animal-love at this trendy vegan cafe.

2. Gracias Madre

Gracias Madre’s vegan Mexican fare puts other will really make you reconsider carnitas. Think butternut squash quesadillas, jackfruit carnitas tacos, and grilled street corn with pumpkin seed parmesan. Trust me, you won’t even miss the meat and dairy.

3. Real Food Daily

Real Food Daily is amazing because it can satisfy any craving. For a healthy, balanced meal, their Basic Bowls are nutritious and customizable. If you’re craving some vegan junk food, their nachos and mac n’ cheese are better than their non-vegan alternatives. And most importantly, RFD’s weekend brunch features all your favorites, such as pancakes, waffles, breakfast burritos, and tempeh bacon.

4. Crossroads Kitchen

Crossroads Kitchen is the perfect spot for fancy vegan food to fool any meat lover. Their lunch menu features the famous impossible burger (pictured) that truly gives meat a run for its money. Their dinner menu offers a wide range of seasonally-inspired small plates, including Tagliatelle Bolognese and a Spicy Meatball Pizza. And don’t forget to get the Chicken and Waffles at Sunday brunch!

5. Shojin

Don’t worry, sushi lovers! Shojin offers a vegan take on all your Japanese favorites, featuring a menu with appetizers, such as Spicy “Tuna” Crispy Rice, sushi rolls, and even ramen. Their recreations of classics like baked crab hand rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and caterpillar rolls will have you saying “Fish are friends, not food!”

6. Cocobella Creamery

Cocobella Creamery is the ultimate vegan dessert spot to satisfy any sweet tooth! Their flavor menu features classics like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Coffee Chip, Salted Caramel, and their signature Unicorn Magic (with marshmallows, animal crackers, and sprinkles) as well as seasonal flavors. To be extra indulgent, choose from their Sundae Menu with combinations like Strawberry Shortcake and Sunny Monkey (pictured).

I am a freshman at Harvard, hoping to study Psychology. I was born and raised in LA and am an avid foodie. In LA, a weekend would consist of trying new restaurants and cuisines and, often, sharing these experiences on instagram. When I travel, I have the same priorities. I spend a lot of time in New York City and am always eager to try the hottest new restaurant or the new intragram-famous dessert spot. At Harvard, I am so excited to explore all of the amazing food that Harvard Square, Cambridge, and Boston have to offer.
