Oreos Just Released Oreo-Flavored Oreos and We’re Slightly Confused

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Georgetown chapter.

Call me boring, but I am an Oreo originalist. I don’t need my Oreo to taste like fruit, turn my tongue pink, or remind me of my failed diet; just give me some plain Oreos and I’ll be happy (and eating all of them, because of course). Obviously, some people like flavored Oreos because they keep making new ones. This week, Nabisco released Cookies and Creme Oreos. Translation: there are now Oreo flavored Oreos because…umm, IDK. I’m stumped.

Why Though…

This new product is the winner of an online vote cast by customers of Wal-Mart. The retail giant held a contest, which included Jelly Donut and Caramel Apple flavored Oreos, to see what they should stock shelves with—and Cookies & Creme won the battle. This flavor is made of the original chocolate cookie exterior but adds crushed cookies to the creme filling. Making it less creme, more cookie.

Nutritionally, these cookies are a bit heftier than the original Oreo. A regular Oreo weighs in at 160 calories per three cookies, while an Oreo flavored Oreo measures in at 140 calories per two cookies. This caloric difference is not a deal breaker because no one is eating Oreos for its nutrition. Just worth noting.

Word on the Street

People are confused about this new flavor, to say the least. I am clearly not alone in thinking that the creator of these cookies must’ve been tripping on something when he thought of this idea.

In the case of the Cookies & Creme Oreo, I am always Jaden Smith (aka #confusedaf).

Will I Try Them?

I don’t know about you, but I’m the type of person who only eats Oreos for the creme filling. I admit that I have considered using a knife to wipe all the cream off individual Oreos because I want to save the best part of the cookie for last. So the lack of creme filling in this new flavor is a turnoff.

People are saying they taste just like Oreos, so I’m skeptical of this limited edition, confusing OG Oreo spinoff. I will not be purchasing these babies, and I equate this abomination to putting a bumper sticker on a Bentley: you just shouldn’t do it.
