When you’re craving chocolate (which is practically every day), Magic Shell, the chocolate dip that hardens into a chocolate candy shell, is by far the best choice (read: Klondike bar, McDonald’s chocolate-dipped soft serve, King cones).
These easy DIY Magic Shell recipes will satisfy your chocolate craving, and won’t break the bank!
Chocolate Dip (AKA Magic Shell)
Ingredients
Instructions
Combine chocolate, coconut oil, and corn syrup in a bowl.
Microwave in 3 to 4 15-second intervals, stirring with a spoon in between until the chocolate is melted.
Transfer the dip to a bowl and store at room temperature, stirring with a spoon if it separates.
King Cones
Ingredients
Instructions
Load a squeeze bottle with chocolate dip.
Drizzle it down the inside of the cone as you spin it, and make the chocolate filling on the bottom as big as you want.
Use a tall, narrow glass (maybe a champagne glass?) to keep the cone upright and freeze it for 20-30 minutes until it is fully hardened.
Once your cones are frozen solid, tamp your favorite ice cream all the way down into the cone, and get a spherical scoop for the top.
Dip the ice cream cone in the pool of chocolate dip.
Once fully coated, spin the cone above the container to drain off the excess.
Roll your cone quickly in the chopped peanuts, and wait 30 seconds for the dip to fully harden.
Dig in!
Klondike Bars
Ingredients
Instructions
Remove the ice cream lid, then cut the edge of the container with a sharp knife, cutting just deep enough to go through the cardboard.
Peel off the container.
Lay the pint upside down and slice off the edges (try to cut straight down for even squares).
Cut the ice cream block into 3 or 4 pieces.
Arrange the squares on a cutting board or small aluminum sheet pan lined with wax paper, and let them harden in the freezer.
Once your ice cream is firm again, stab one end with a popsicle stick or fork and quickly dip it into your bowl of chocolate dip.
Spin the bar above the dip to drip off excess. The shell needs 30 seconds to completely harden.
Wait 10 seconds after that, then lay the bar on a fresh sheet of wax paper, slide the fork out, and put it back in the freezer.
After 30 minutes, wrap them in foil and dig in.
Mister Softee Soft Serve
Ingredients
Instructions
Take a wafer cone and mound a big spoonful of ice cream on it.
Dip it into your chocolate dip in one quick motion.
Rotate it above the dip so excess can drip away.
Let the dip harden completely for about 30 seconds (it will turn matte) before biting in.
Ice Cream Pops
Ingredients
Instructions
Let the ice cream soften enough that you can easily spoon it into the Dixie cups.
Shove a popsicle stick halfway down each cup and let the ice cream harden in the freezer for at least two or three hours.
With a knife or clean pair of scissors, cut the paper cup away from the frozen ice cream.
Dunk the pops in the chocolate dip one at a time.
Twirl them over the dip so the excess drains away, and while it’s still glossy, roll them around in the topping of your choice.
Wait for them to fully harden and enjoy!
