These 11 Places Serve the Best Breakfast Sandwiches in DC

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Georgetown chapter.

There’s no better way to cure a hangover after a long night out than with greasy, savory morning-after eats. Here are the best breakfast sandwiches in DC that are sure to get you through that fateful Sunday morning and the long day ahead. No matter whether you’re looking for a greasy BEC or a stuffed bagel, I’ve got you covered with options for the best breakfast sandwiches in DC.

11. Beef n Bread

The Cali Sunshine is made with eggs, turkey, bacon, avocado, muenster cheese, and wise sauce, which is basically everything you could ever want and more in between two pieces of bread. It gets even better because the three other breakfast sandwiches at Beef n Bread have tater tots in them (*drooling*).

Chinatown: 750 6th Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Foggy Bottom: 2121 H Street NW, Washington, D.C.

10. SUNdeVICH

A quick walk for Georgetown students and a great study spot, SUNdeVICH is located just a few blocks from campus. Grab the Milan sandwich made with pancetta, gorgonzola, arugula, eggs, and garlic mayo (and maybe a drink from Grace Street Coffee, or an açaí bowl from South Block Juice Co. while you’re at it).

Georgetown: 3210 Grace Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Shaw: 1314 9th Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Park View: 3212 Georgia Street NW, Washington, D.C.

9. The Pretzel Bakery

What could be better than a breakfast sandwich on a warm, soft pretzel? You can mix savory and sweet with a Nutella-filled pretzel bomb or stick to tradition with a BEC on an everything pretzel roll at The Pretzel Bakery.

Hill East: 257 15th Street SE, Washington, D.C.

8. Slipstream

With a menu that changes weekly to reflect the best items that local farms have to offer, Slipstream‘s sandwiches are always fresh and super savory. They also serve brunch until 3pm on weekends, so even those who sleep until noon can get their fix.

14th Street: 1333 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C.

7. Wicked Waffle

Whether you want a savory sandwich or a sweet treat, Wicked Waffle has it all. Favorites include the Egg and Cheese, Fried Chicken, and Nutella Banana. I am personally obsessed with Wicked Waffle because most of their light and fluffy waffles are gluten-free.

Farragut Square: 1712 I Street NW, Washington, D.C.

6. Stomping Ground

It’s so worth the trip to Alexandria, VA to build your own buttermilk biscuit at Stomping Ground, to which you can add poached egg, smashed avocado, Benton’s bacon, and seasonal vegetable frittata (just to name a few options). If you want to stay classic, get the Fried Chicken Biscuit, but don’t be afraid to spice it up with some tahini, hot sauce, red onion, honey, and za’atar.

Alexandria: 2309 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia

5. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken

There’s really no better combination than doughnuts and fried chicken. You can make your own sandwich on a savory doughnut, or grab a creme brûlée or maple bacon doughnut with some wings for on the go. The doughnuts at Astro are almost too beautiful to eat, and they will certainly brighten up both your Sunday morning and your Insta feed.

Metro Center: 1308 G Street NW, Washington, D.C.

4. Ted’s Bulletin

Ted’s Bulletin is known for the T.U.B.S., which combines griddled toast, fried egg, scrambled egg, sausage, bacon, and cheddar (yup, that’s real). They also have some other amazing offerings. I’d check out the Cinnamon Bun As Big As Ya Head, and The Walk Of Shame Breakfast Burrito (which we can all relate to). Ted’s is the perfect place to satisfy your Sunday morning cravings.

14th Street: 1818 14th Street NW, Washington, D.C.

Capitol Hill: 505 8th Street SE, Washington, D.C.

3. Mason Dixie Biscuit Co.

Mason Dixie‘s breakfast sandwiches are served on handmade buttermilk biscuits and are available all day on weekends. Their fried chicken has the perfect crisp, and their ice cream shakes, which are topped with whipped cream and sprinkles (because, of course), are the perfect level of sweet to complement your savory sandwich. These biscuits were voted the best in America for a reason.

Gateway: 2301 Blandensburg Road NE, Washington, D.C.

2. A Baked Joint

With bread that’s handmade on site (and not to mention the extensive bread schedule that you can find here to see what’s available each day), A Baked Joint has a wide variety of breakfast sandwiches that you can enjoy all day long. If you don’t feel like you need both pieces of bread to complete your breakfast sammie, grab a slice of toast, topped with anything from Nutella, butter, and bananas, to peanut butter with Sriracha drizzle and cilantro.

Mount Vernon Triangle: 440 K Street NW, Washington, D.C.

1. Bethesda Bagels

Last, but certainly not least, we have the best breakfast sandwich of them all: the bagel. These handmade NY-style bagels are as close to a New York bagel as you can get here in Washington, DC, and they really are just as good (and I’m from NY, so I know my bagels).

Choose any kind of bagel and turn it into an avocado BLT, a pepperoni pizza bagel, a steak & cheese sammie, or anything in between. With more bagels than you’ve ever heard of and more toppings than you can count, Bethesda Bagels is the place to get the best breakfast sandwiches in DC.

Dupont Circle: 1718 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.

Navy Yard: 120 M Street SE, Washington, D.C

And there you have it, your guide to the best breakfast sandwiches in DC. With so many mouthwatering options all over the city, you really can’t go wrong wherever you end up.
