Underrated Turkey Taco Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at FSU chapter.

If you love tacos but want to eat healthy, try this dank and healthy turkey taco recipe. Ground turkey is healthier than ground beef, and even if ground turkey lacks flavor, the right spices do the trick and you won’t notice. You can thank me later for your future Taco Tuesdays because the green chilies are no joke in this recipe.

Instructions

  1. Megan Jones

    Chop onion into small chunks.

  2. Megan Jones

Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil.

  3. Megan Jones

Add turkey and cook on medium high until brown. Chop into small chunks as it cooks. Add all seasonings to taste; mix well.

  4. Megan Jones

Add chili beans, salsa, black olives and green chilies for color and volume. Mix well. Side note: my trip to New Mexico changed my life forever because they put green chilies in everything, and so should you.

  5. Megan Jones

Cook on low and allow to simmer while taco shells cook in oven (follow instructions on box).

  6. Megan Jones

Eat chips with salsa, guacamole or queso while cooking because there’s no other way to do it.

  7. Megan Jones

Add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream as toppings (all preference).

Now you have a super easy recipe to follow when you want tacos, but also want to eat healthy.

#spoontip: if you’re trying to be REAL healthy, switch out the taco shells for lettuce

This will save you money because you won’t be eating out and are making it in bulk. You should totally make this a weekly event and invite your friends over for food because who doesn’t love a taco and queso party?
