With the opening of the new student union this spring at Florida State University, we have been blessed with a handful of new locations to dine at. For those who have yet to step foot in the union, I feel it is my duty to give you a quick rundown on your new options.
I know the campus Chick-Fil-A has a chokehold on the student body but let’s be honest, is it really worth it to wait in that extremely claustrophobic waiting area for a chicken sandwich? There’s only so many times you can go to 1851 and have a flatbread “pizza” from Tuscan Eatery or a two ounce serving of mac and cheese for $10 from Tally Mac Shake before you and your wallet get sick of it.
What food at Florida State’s student union is new you ask?
Panda Express
Let’s begin with everyone’s favorite Chinese fast food chain, Panda Express.
With a variety of westernized Chinese food options, Panda Express is a great option for those in a hurry to get a quick bowl and eat it on their way to class. Or, you can get yourself a plate with two entrees and a side, sit down, and feast.
Not sure what to order? Here are The 11 Best Panda Express Menu Items, Ranked by Taste.
Brooklyn Pizza
Craving a taste of Italy? Er , I mean, Brooklyn? Well look no further as we finally have a real location worthy of advertising pizza on their menu. I’m looking at you Tuscan Eatery. Offering whole pizzas, by-the-slice options, pasta platters, garlic knots, and desserts like cannolis and cheesecake, Brooklyn Pizza is here to satisfy your craving for a classic New York slice. Well, as classic a New York slice you’ll find in Tallahassee, Florida. Make sure to get a slice, walk around campus, almost get hit by a skateboarder or cyclist and make sure to scream “I’M WALKIN HERE!” to get the full experience.
Pollo Tropical
Trying to skip the fried and greasy foods? Pollo Tropical is here to offer you a nice refreshing Latin-Caribbean option. They offer different types of rice, grilled chicken, and fresh vegetables. You can get these options in salads, bowls, and even wraps.
Panera Bread
Wanting a break from the 500 Starbucks on campus? Panera Bread is here to help. With a variety of freshly baked breads and pastries, soup and salad combinations, and a vast assortment of teas and coffee, this is a great spot for you to get your coffee fix and grab a great bite to eat.
Proof
And last but not least we have Florida State’s very own sports bar. Got a long break between class and don’t want to go home? Passed an exam? Failed an exam? Head to Proof.
Located on the bottom floor of the union, Proof has a variety of beer on draft, cocktails, wines, and a classic sports bar food menu. Giving college students access to alcohol on campus might be the most genius thing or the most risky thing but only time will tell.
Now there you are, your new food at Florida State’s new student union. Now go eat, drink, live, laugh, love, and enjoy the new variety of food all while some random kid plays the piano as loud as they can in the middle of the union. Enjoy!
