The Best Hispanic Food in the Bronx

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Fordham chapter.

When I moved from Panama to New York, I knew I wouldn’t have any trouble finding a piece of my culture right here in the Bronx. However, after almost an entire year here, Estrellita’s and Chipotle still seemed to be my only options. So, I decided to search for genuine Hispanic places to eat, and I’ve compiled this list of the best and most authentic places to get the best Hispanic food in the Bronx.

Rancho Estrella

While this restaurant a little smaller than what you’d expect to see in the Bronx, Rancho Estrella has a very welcoming environment.

With a friendly staff, bachata and salsa music playing on repeat, along with very reasonable prices, this is the perfect place to kill any college student’s late-night cravings for tacos, burritos, or arroz con frijoles.

Regarding their food, this might be the place for you if you’re looking for something with a little kick in it. With such an extended menu, you’re guaranteed to find something you’ll like. Anything from their Tacos de la Casa and Tacos Dorados to their different salsa options creates the perfect combination of savory and spicy.

Address: 621 E 187th St, Bronx, NY 10458

With several posters of vintage Hispanic characters, colorful traditional items and Catholic decorations on the wall, this place is as traditional as it can get.

Their salsas and guac are more fresh and authentic than most places, so this is a great and affordable option for anyone who enjoys quality Hispanic food.

Parilla Latina

If you are ever in the mood for some Tostones, Churrasco, or just looking for a place where you and your friends can get some juicy grilled meat, Parilla Latina might be the best choice you can make.

Even though this is the priciest option in the list, this Dominican steakhouse has the most diverse menu and works like a great idea either for a nice group dinner or some late breakfast after a night out. Best part of it? They also deliver.

Adress: 2501 Webster Ave, Bronx, NY 1045

Living in the Bronx means you are constantly being surrounded by Hispanic culture. Whether you are on a quick trip Walgreens or waiting for the D train, in my opinion, you’re still being exposed to the flavor and the feeling of Latin America. For me, these places can sometimes be a home away from home, but for others, the food and atmosphere of these restaurants are one of the best ways to truly get a taste of Hispanic culture.
