Welcome to June, one of the greatest months of the year where we celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride, the summer solstice, and Father’s Day. And according to the internet, it’s also National Candy Month, so that’s pretty cool. One of the best ways to celebrate the wonderful month that is June is with food. So here are 20 food things you need to do before July 1.
Holidays
Every month has at least one food holiday that goes viral on Instagram, and June is no exception. Last June, there were eight trending #national [insert food] day posts all over my feed. Participate in the postings by celebrating:
National Donut Day — June 1
National Cheese Day – June 4
National Chocolate Ice Cream Day – June 7
National Rosé Day – June 9
National Eat Your Vegetables Day – June 17
International Sushi Day – June 18
National Smoothie Day – June 21
National Onion Ring Day – June 22
Back to Basics
Speaking of holidays, lets not forget to celebrate (with food) the basics: Father’s Day and Pride Month.
There are thousands of ways to celebrate Father’s Day, but a staple Father’s Day celebration in the US is a cook-out. Make some burgers and hot dogs for your dad on June 17.
Pride Month demands celebration, too. Depending on where you are, there might be parades and festivities to attend. In NYC there’s there’s NYC Pride, in DC, there’s the Pride Parade, and in LA there’s the LA Pride Festival. You can celebrate and check off your foodie bucket list by enjoying drinks and unique food truck bites.
If you can’t make it to an event, try going to a local store that supports the LGBTQ+ community, like the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop in NYC or Philadelphia.
June = Summer
It’s time to indulge in all those hot-weather treats, so enjoy an ice cream cone, a Popsicle, a SnoCone and stop at an ice cream truck this month. Do it all and do it big.
Take some time off and have a picnic with your friends or go to a restaurant and eat outside like you’ve told yourself you were going to do all winter. Maybe go to a concert or a baseball game and eat stadium food.
Go to a local farmer’s market and buy fresh veggies and fruits. Try every single stands’ samples – you can make a whole day out of it!
Head to the beach and eat boardwalk food, like fries and funnel cakes, and more ice cream! It’s finally time to enjoy the weather and have vacation, so make the most of it.
