Smoothie Bowls: Quarantine Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Fairfield chapter.

Hey Spoonies,

In desperate need of a good smoothie bowl? Yeah, me too. Due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak, restaurants all over the world have been forced to shut down. So here are my favorite recipes that have been settling my cravings with ingredients I found around my house!

My 3 Favorite Base Recipes:

All 3 of these recipes are extremely easy, all you need is the ingredients, a blender, and a bowl! I made all of these bowls with the ingredients I had around the house so I’m sure you too can make these bowls in your quarantine. For each bowl I blended it for 1-2 minutes or until it was completely smooth, depending on the consistence you want add more ice to make it thicker and liquid to thin it out.

The Berry Base is perfect for when you are looking for a sweet treat. Jazz it up with fruity toppings or tone it down with some granola and coconut flakes. Either way you will love this vitamin packed bowl, it’s perfect for quarantine!

    Green Base

The green base has to be my favorite one, with this base you are able to get in your greens guilt free! Kale in a smoothie bowl does scare a lot of people but you can’t even taste it in it. I like to put more than 1/2 cup in mine just to add more nutrients.

      Decident Base

I had never had a chocolate peanut butter smoothie bowl before, but I’m sure this will not be my last! Chocolate protein powder would be the perfect ingredient to add to this base but sadly I did not have any for it. Another ingredient that would taste great in this base would be coffee, change the recipe by adding 1/4 cup coffee and 1/4 cup almond milk.

        Topping Ideas

Toppings are a great way to add fun flavors to your bases, plus they make them look extra yummy! I used banana slices, vanilla granola, coconut flakes, peanut butter drizzle, strawberries, blueberries, and mini chocolate chips. But there are countless other things you can add to your own, it’s whatever your heart desires!

        How You Can Help

If you know of any restaurants in your area that are still open operating via curbside pick up, don’t be afraid to order. Any support you can give to your local restaurants while still practicing social distancing is a must. It doesn’t even have to be a smoothie place!

Here is a list of my favorite places to get smoothie bowls when I’m at Fairfield:

        Organika Kitchen, Southport, CT

        Green & Tonic, Westport, CT

        – Playa Bowls, Fairfield, CT

Roberks Fresh Juice & Smoothie, Fairfield, CT
