So we’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, as college students, it can often be difficult for us to find the time and energy to prepare breakfast for ourselves before class.
By planning ahead and keeping a few necessary ingredients in your dorm room fridge, you can quickly and easily put together a breakfast for yourself and even for your roommate. I always try to include fiber, protein and carbohydrates in my breakfast, so that I can stay full until lunch.
While I can’t ensure that these breakfasts will taste quite as good as your mom’s pancakes, I promise you can make them in five minutes or less and you will be satisfied until your next meal.
Nutritious and Nutty
Start off with one slice of whole wheat bread or an English muffin. Next, slather the bread with your favorite peanut butter (1 or 2 tablespoons).
For a high-protein alternative, use almond butter. Then, to finish off this breakfast treat, slice up as much banana as you want and place it on top of your chosen nut butter.
Power Parfait
Put two cups of your favorite yogurt in a bowl. Use fat-free Greek yogurt to make your breakfast low in fat. Make sure that you have picked up some fresh berries at the supermarket, and throw as many of them as you would like into the bowl with your yogurt (make sure you wash the fruit first). I usually use strawberries or blueberries.
To get a delicious crunch in this breakfast, add granola on top of your fruit, or use 7 Whole Grain Nuggets Cereal by Kashi® (sold at Whole Foods), which has less sugar than most granola.
Satisfying and Sweet
By adding fruit and spices to oatmeal, you can put together a quick, sweet breakfast. Heat up instant oatmeal in a microwavable bowl (I buy the Quaker Instant Oatmeal Flavor Variety Pack).
Then add raisins, bananas and cinnamon to add flavor and nutritious benefits to your oatmeal.
These three breakfasts will save you time spent walking to the dining hall, will keep you from skipping this important meal and will satisfy your taste buds first thing in the morning.
