Upgrade Your Chocolate Cake Mix With This Simple Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Duke chapter.

As an avid baker, I’m typically opposed to using boxed mixes in my homemade creations. I feel guilty passing off boxed cake as my own, but sometimes you have to make do. One trick my grandma has taught me is to add in two secret ingredients to my chocolate cake mix: sour cream and instant pudding. Sounds strange, but trust me on this one.

This cake is sure to be a crowd pleaser, no matter who the audience. My cousins devoured every bite in approximately six seconds without even questioning what was in it. In addition to the sour cream and pudding, the chocolate chips are an added bonus of extra flavor. Whenever you’re in a time crunch, now you know what to do.
