The 7 Best Things to Order at Dos Caminos

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Delaware chapter.

Chipotle, Moe’s, Baja Fresh, Qdoba. What do they all have in common? They get your Mexican tastebuds watering.

What else do they have in common? They serve the same foods. All of them. When you’re going out to dinner in New York City, Washington D.C, or even Philadelphia, you’d rather go to a five star Mexican restaurant than eat at Baja Fresh. I took this advice and walked myself to the Dos Caminos in Times Square, New York City, and was pleasantly surprised.

Over the years, I have taken family members, friends, even co-workers to Dos Caminos and shown them real Mexican food. While they were all overwhelmed at the menu, they loved it just as much as me. Here are the best items to order at Dos Caminos.

1. The Guacamole

Chips and guac, a classic dish, and Dos Caminos exceeds all expectations. The guacamole makes the dip right in front of you, so your eyes can see everything. The fresh avocados, diced onions and tomatoes, and spices create a mother watering appetizer. The salted and warm chips come out equally appealing and when they hit your tongue, flavors are united.

2. The El Camino Margarita

A Mexican restaurant is not a Mexican restaurant without its margaritas. If you are over 21, I highly recommend ordering a margarita to come along side your meal. While the cost is a little high, your tastebuds will repay you. Imagine the instagram picture that could happen from this. Chips and guacamole placed right next to your fresh margarita with lime. Take a picture of that!

3. The Sizzling Arrachera

When I asked my friends what their favorite entrée was, they replied “that steak thing” and “the thing with that super hot pan”.  “The Sizzling Arrachera” comes out and you can almost see the flames. The tampiquena-marinated grilled skirt steak is placed on your table and all eyes are glued. Onions, peppers, guacamole, pico de gallo, and two flour tortillas follow the meat and are added to the presentation.

4. The Huevos A La Mexicana Tacos

Next time you are at brunch on a Sunday morning with three of your best girlfriends, try these tacos. They are a perfect hit, with eggs, onions, and tomatoes. Corn or flour tortillas are provided which makes the breakfast a Mexican dish. A mimosa would hit the spot!

5. The Asada Tacos

Steak, onions, cheese, guacamole. I can’t think of anything better. These tacos satisfies all cravings and even leave you wanting more. While this is a simple dish that you could make at home, Dos Caminos knows how to make them five-star quality tacos.

7. The Mexico City Street Corn

Nothing tastes better than a classic piece of street corn, especially where you can see the grill marks. Remember to grab floss before leaving the house for this one, you will want to eat every single bite. And the best part, you can get it on or off the cob.

If these don’t leave you craving Dos Caminos, or at least Mexican food, something is seriously wrong with you. From shrimp tacos to steak salads, from mimosas to wine, from salsa to street corn, Dos Caminos has something for everyone.
