A 5-Minute Baked Apple Recipe That Only Uses Dining Hall Ingredients

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Columbia Barnard chapter.

When the weather gets colder and you want something comforting to warm you up without breaking the bank, this super simple baked apple hits the spot. Who has time to go grocery shopping anyways? Just swipe these ingredients from the dining hall, use your floor’s microwave, and you are good to go.

All you need is a microwave safe container and an apple corer ($3 from your local homewares store) to create this vegan, gluten free snack. If you have them, ground nutmeg and ginger make nice additions, too.

Instructions

  1. DSC 0507

Core the apple and stuff the hole with raisins.

  2. DSC 0527

Pierce the apple skin all over with a fork. You don’t want your apple to explode in the microwave, trust me.

  3. DSC 0538

    Sprinkle with cinnamon.

  4. Microwave on high for 3 minutes or until the apple is soft and the raisins juicy. Serve warm.
