The Edible Jello Cups to Step Up Your Next Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Cal Poly chapter.

College is supposed to be one of the best times of your life— which to a lot of people means full of parties. So when we throw those parties, we want them to be fun, right? We want people to show up, have a good time, and then reminisce about our parties as one of the best nights of their life. That’s a lot of expectations to meet, though. You have to find the perfect music, activities, decor, and of course, drinks.

While I think you guys can take care of the rest, I think can help with the drinks. Or rather, what the drinks come in. What’s cooler than sturdy jello cups that you can eat after taking a shot from? Almost nothing! With these edible cups, people won’t forget the night, and you’ll have an interesting anecdote to talk about when you mingle with your guests.

Instructions

  1. Natasha Agharkar
To prep your cups, use a pair of scissors to poke two holes on opposite sides of the smaller cup right at the top. Stick a skewer through both.
  2. Natasha Agharkar
You should have two bowls with one flavor in each. Split the boiling water into two and add to each bowl. Stir quickly, so there aren’t any lumps.
  3. Pour a small amount into the larger cups (about 1/3 of the way full) and push the smaller cup down on top of it so that the skewers are resting on the top of the large cup.
  4. Natasha Agharkar
Pour the cold water almost all the way up into the small cup so it weighs the cup down and holds the jello in the shape of a cup beneath it. You can use tape to stick the skewers to the big cup for further protection.
  5. Put the cups in the fridge for about 3-4 hours until firm.
  6. When they’re done, start by wriggling out the inside cup first, so you have the jello stuck in the big cup.
  7. Natasha Agharkar
Use the scissors to make cuts at the top of the big cup. Peel the strips you’ve made down slowly, making sure not to tear the jello. Detach the bottom of the jello cup from the big cup.

#spoontip: You can mix the colors when making the cups for a marbled effect.

#spoontip: You change change the amount of jello mixture you put in the big cup to adjust the size of the jello cups.

Now that you have your edible cups down, you can focus on the rest of your party without worry. Whatever decor or activities you choose, your guests will be distracted by the delicious snack they have to eat while they drink the night away. Now, you can do what college students do best and spend your time having fun as well!
