6 Best Places to Get a Hamburger In and Around Bergen County

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Bergen chapter.

A good burger is a staple in everyone’s diet. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or full-on meat-eater, there’s a burger that’s perfect for you. What could possibly better fill a greasy craving than a juicy burger on a lightly toasted, soft yet crispy bun, topped with endless choices of cheeses, veggies, meats, and more! If you live in or near Bergen County or happen to find yourself stumbling through some time, use this list to find the best hamburger, cheeseburger, veggie burger, and any other burger around.

The Iron Horse – Westwood, NJ

If you’re a fan of cheeseburgers, Iron Horse is for you. Not only are there more than 20 burger options (for all types of eaters), but Iron Horse is home to the stuffed burger. Yes, you read that right. Westwood’s American eatery stuffs their cheeseburger with your cheese of choice. So, not only do you get to pick the base of your burger (beef, turkey, veggie, etc) and the cheese on your burger, you get to choose the cheese IN your burger. And they have a lot to choose from! The Iron Horse lets you build your perfect burger/ cheese combo.

White Manna – Hackensack, NJ

Eating a White Manna burger is an experience that everyone should have. The tiny trailer-turned-restaurant produces mini,  burgers at an incredibly fast pace right in front of your eyes. Don’t expect a nice sit-down restaurant, but rather a small fast-food type of place. Since the burgers are small, you might need to eat 2 or 3 or 4 to satisfy your hunger. If you’re looking for a cheap yet delicious beef burger (with cheese and/or onions), White Manna is calling your name.

East Coast Burger- Ridgewood, NJ

Think In-N-Out, but on the East Coast, and you’ve come up with East Coast Burger Company. With an old-timey feel and unbeatable burgers, East Coast is a non-fast food take on West Coast fast food burger chains. But what happens if you finish your burger and you’re still hungry? Don’t worry! East Coast has plenty of sides, shakes, fries, and seafood options to choose from. East Coast won’t let you go hungry! And the best thing? If you don’t have the time or can’t wait to eat you’re just so hungry, East Coast will have your burger ready faster than you can say East Coast Burger Company.

Steve Burgers- Garfield, NJ

At this casual roadside burger stand, treat yourself to a burger, chili dog, or almost any other fast food staple. It’s cheap, casual, and has a wide array of options so there’s some type of burger, or meal, for everyone! Sit outside in their outdoor seating area and enjoy the nice weather (at least during the warm months) with a nice hamburger, cheeseburger, or veggie burger. For $2 hot dogs, delicious burgers, and an old-American feel, Steve’s Burgers is the place to go.

The Filling Station- Palisades, NY

This chill, outdoor stop on the side of the highway offers some of the best burgers around. Seating is limited and fills up fast so make sure to arrive early (before the lunch rush) so you can find a prime table outside. Made with all-natural, all-organic meet, you can find a regular Angus beef burger as well as a blended brisket, hangar steak, and short rib burgers.

Bareburger- Closter, NJ

This rustic, cozy restaurant at the corner of Closter Plaza has a menu complete with burgers, fries, and amaaaazing milkshakes. Pick from one of their pre-designed burgers or build your own with an extensive menu of meats/proteins, buns, veggies, sauces, and more.

If you’ve ever got a big burger craving (and trust me, I know it happens ALL the time) and you find yourself in Bergen County, try one of these places! They’ll never disappoint.
