I know it’s sad to think about, but summer is coming to an end. It’s hard to believe that just a few short months ago we were sharing with you all the things you would miss about Bentley over the summer, and now it’s time to get ready to go back to campus. Our tans will unfortunately fade, the late summer nights will roll into early morning GB’s, but our summer memories and prestigious internships will thankfully remain in our hearts and on our resumes. As we prepare to return back to campus here are some of the thoughts we as Bentley students share about going back!
1. Why did I ever think I could get up for my 8am…
Back when we were picking classes it seemed like we could do it. So we’d set three or four alarms, roll out of bed, and run (until we got out of breath) the many many stairs, and slip into our seat at exactly 7:59 and 59 seconds. But the closer it gets to the first day of classes, the less plausible it seems. One thing that all Bentley students have in common though is their motivation to succeed, so we’ll be okay. Worse comes to worse, there’s always the add drop period.
2. OMG SO MANY STAIRS
There’s no denying how beautiful our campus is. The picturesque clock tower, the leaves in the fall, the large open spaces (shout out to the Greenspace!), but all this comes at a cost, stairs. Our campus has no shortage of stairs, the Smith Stairs, the Adamian Stairs, the stairs over the bridge on lower, the stairs in your dorm (if you unfortunately don’t have an elevator), STAIRS STAIRS STAIRS! There’s no escaping, and if you could escape, you would probably be greeted by more stairs. You would think you would get used to it, but you don’t.
3. I can’t wait to see all my friends… and live with them!
Living on a college campus means that you’re never more than a few steps away from the squad! So summer can be tough as the separation anxiety is real and we’re all eager to get back to campus and back to our friends. If you’re super lucky, you might even be living with them!
4. Do I really have this much stuff…
Packing up all your scattered belongings to bring back to your tiny tiny dorm room can be daunting. As the pile accumulates, and grows bigger and bigger, you ask yourself “Do I really have that much stuff???”.
5. I’m going to be organized this semester
Armed with our colorful agendas, multi-colored pens and sticker sheets, we have the best intentions. As the new semester is right around the corner, we tell ourselves we’re going to use our time wisely, studying, going to office hours, and maybe even scheduling in a nap or two. In reality though, life can be unexpected and sticking to a strict schedule can be difficult, so cut yourself some slack and take an extra nap! Adulting can be hard, and sometimes it feels like our life is literally scattered into pieces at our feet.
6. I’m going to budget my discresh
We’re all tempted to stop at Einsteins before class and grab a coffee and a bagel, or maybe treat ourselves to lunch at Lacava, but discresh can run out fast and you don’t want to be high and dry during finals. So we tell ourselves we’re going to budget our discresh this semester. But when in doubt, Falcon Funds will come to the rescue for that extra shot of espresso during finals.
7. MORE STAIRS
Stairs, omg, so many stairs, WHYYYY
Sometimes, after walking up the Smith stairs to get to class you might want to reward yourself with a coffee, but the catch is YOU HAVE TO WALK UP MORE STAIRS TO GET THERE. Is there no end? Thankfully the gorgeous campus views help make up for it.
8. I’m going to go to the gym this year… really I am
Whether you tell yourself you’re going to go everyday or once a week, we all tell ourselves this is the semester we’re going to get in shape! If it doesn’t happen for you this semester, don’t worry, the obnoxious amount of stairs on campus is enough exercise anyway… so we tell ourselves.
If you don’t make it to the gym, here are some stress-free tips for staying healthy in college.
9. I can’t wait to show off my Bentley spirit!
Though we might have worn our Bentley gear throughout the summer, there’s just something about walking around campus and seeing 90% of students wearing Bentley clothing that puts a smile on our faces, bonus if it’s a dog!
10. I’M JUST SO EXCITED!
Here at the Bent, we’re pretty lucky. For most of us Falcons, Bentley is a home away from home and we can’t wait to go back!
And for all our newest Falcons who’ll be arriving on campus this fall, welcome from Spoon Bentley!
