Best On-Campus Food Options To Eat With Spring Break In Mind

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Auburn chapter.

With spring break quickly approaching, everyone is being cautious about their diets. While you may feel like you need to splurge on healthy groceries, this is not the case. Auburn offers so many healthy, on-campus food options available at the swipe of your TigerCard. Check out some of my favorites below.

Au Bon Pain

Au Bon Pain, known better to Auburn students as “ABP,” offers many healthy options. All of their sandwiches can be substituted on wheat bread, and are especially tasty. They also have many fresh salad options that will leave you feeling satisfied, but not too full. If you’re a picky eater like me, you also have the ability to build your own salad at the salad bar.

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A doesn’t usually come to mind when trying to eat healthy; however, they have many great options if you’re trying to be healthy but still need your Chick-fil-A fix. They have grilled sandwiches, grilled nuggets, salads and, my personal favorite, the chicken wrap. Avoid the fries, and pick fruit as your side.

Terra Nova, located in Foy, provides healthy, made-to-order salads, bowls and wraps. Just choose your base, a protein and as many toppings as you want. A delicious and super healthy, on-campus meal.

API Trading Co.

Though we all miss Go Greek, API Trading Co. has been a great addition to the Auburn meal plan. API offers Latin-American and Caribbean cuisine in the form of sandwiches, bowls, tacos and more. With such a large menu, it’s easy to spot many healthy, satisfying options.

The Olive Branch

Craving Taziki’s greek salad? The Olive Branch is a great on-campus Mediterranean option. Everything is fresh due to the daily rotating special. I highly recommend the gyro, voted best gyro in Birmingham. If you just need a small snack, the hummus and baba ganouj dips are to die for.

Plains2Plate

Plains2Plate is the nation’s first certified gluten-free, on-campus restaurants. P2P has a menu full of locally grown food options. Popular healthy options include kale slaw, sausage, quinoa salad and roasted veggies.

Wellness Kitchen

The all-you-can-eat environment can be overwhelming, but the options are all of the highest quality. Wellness, commonly known as the athlete dining hall, offers multiple entree options, a salad bar, panini station and fresh fruit. It’s a great place to go if you are hungry and want a lot of healthy options.

Food Trucks

Auburn constantly rotates the food trucks around campus. If they’re on campus, many have great healthy options. Burrito del Mar offers delicious Mexican bowls and salads. Smooth N Groove offers healthy smoothies, just ask for sugar-free or artificial sweeteners instead of just sugar. Even University Donut Company has healthy options, such as assorted quiches.

As you can tell, Auburn has more healthy options than you might think. The above places are great to keep in mind if you’re trying to prep for spring break.
