What if your favorite magazine was actually a perfectly crafted meal? These quirky publications have branded themselves with distinct personalities and flavors that we at Spoon AU have turned into scrumptious foods. So what food is your favorite publication?
Cosmopolitan – Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Cosmo has quickly gained the reputation as the sex bible for women everywhere. This suggestive magazine compares perfectly with a seductive late night snack for you and your special someone: strawberries dipped in chocolate, with a side of whipped cream. Leave the whipped cream in the can, it’s for after dessert.
The Onion – An Extravagant Cake by Cake Boss
This famous satirical news publication is known for making hilarious parodies out of everyday news. With The Onion, nothing is ever as it seems, so the only fitting comparison is a vanilla Cake Boss cake perfectly disguised and crafted to resemble a building on fire with a firetruck and firemen at the scene.
Buzzfeed – Overly Stuffed French Toast
This online news company offers reading material on a wide variety of topics. Its food section showcases recipes that are impossible not to ogle at.
Buzzfeed would be nothing other than french toast stuffed with Nutella, peanut butter and bananas, doused in a brown butter maple syrup and topped off with crumpled bacon and fresh fruit. All cooked in the microwave in under 10 minutes.
Sports Illustrated – Filet Mignon and Mashed Potatoes
This magazine, usually catered to men and their sport obsessions, calls for the most masculine, protein-packed food around: filet mignon, smothered in butter sauce with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. And of course, a side salad because your girlfriend asked nicely.
National Geographic Kids – Chicken Dinos
Nat Geo Kids makes me nostalgic for bright yellow magazines I flipped through in my younger days, learning cool facts about tigers and monkeys. Nat Geo Kids could only be the adventurous and playful meal of dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets with a side of crispy french fries and Heinz colored ketchup.
Parents Magazine – Meatloaf and Veggies
This magazine is the reason why your mom told you to eat your veggies. It also offered recipes for the creamiest mashed potatoes. When you think of a classic “mom meal,” there’s only one that comes to mind: meatloaf, mashed potatoes and sweet corn with peas.
The New York Times – Five Course Prix Fixe Meal
This New York City based newspaper has gained a prestigious reputation for a dedication to hard news, fashion and fine NYC art. The New York Times would be a five course prix fixe menu including seared ahi tuna, cheese tasting plate, wild caught sea bass in a saffron emulsion, filet mignon with potato gratin, finished off with a warm chocolate lava cake.
Of course the wine pairing is optional, but who would ever pass on that?
Spoon University – Avocado Toast
Spoon University is always first to jump on a food trend and make it college student friendly. It offers the most delectable cheap and easy recipes that you can make without ever leaving campus.
This online publication has to be avocado toast topped with anything you can find in your dorm room, stolen from the dining hall of course. And the meal wouldn’t be complete without a perfectly fried or poached egg.
So maybe we won’t ever go for brunch and see a Buzzfeed style french toast, but it’s always fun to dream.
