The Must Visit Taverna Trilussa in Rome, Italy

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Alabama chapter.

If there is one restaurant to go to when in Rome, it’s Taverna Trilussa. The hidden restaurant is surrounded by vines and illuminated by soft lights at Via del Politeama 23. Taverna is located in the heart of Trastevere, in the young, vibrant nightlife side of the city. It is a must-see location for whenever you find yourself in Rome.

Taverna is home to many classical, yet simplistic Roman dishes. To begin, you can start with one of the many choices of traditional Roman pasta dishes, all’Amatriciana which consists of peeled tomatoes, guanciale (a type of meat similar to bacon), a dash of salt and pepper and olive oil. To follow as a second, first class fillet carpaccio marinated with lemon, extra virgin olive oil and salt flakes from Cyprus. This fillet carpaccio is served on a bed of rocket lettuce and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese that’s been aged around 30 months.

One of the most famous Roman dishes? Served right out of the pan, La carbonara; guanciale, egg yolk, pecorino romano and a dash of salt and pepper. Notice how these dishes aren’t loaded with sauces and numerous ingredients? Taverna firmly believes in the phrase “less is more,” which they definitely maintain with their holistic ingredients.

Cacio e Pepe is another typical Roman dish that gets its name “cacio” from the type of cheese it uses: pecorino romano. It gets  “pepe” from the pepper that mixes in perfectly with the taste of the cheese, along with a hint of salt. Three ingredient pasta is the way to go.

Next time you find yourself in Rome, after visiting the sights, don’t forget to head to Trastevere to let yourself get lost and explore within the streets. Rome is the best city to get lost in, but on your adventure, don’t forget to eat—the most important part of Italian lifestyle.
