Probiotic snacks and drinks are everywhere; from popular sodas like Poppi and Olipop, to kefir and kombucha. People love eating things with microorganisms and bacteria to clean their gut. Now, there’s another food item in line with this trend…ice cream.
Enter Alec’s Culture Cup. Alec’s Ice Cream is a probiotic ice cream brand that previously sold its product only in pint form and is now producing its ice cream in single servings. A small cup of ice cream topped with a dark chocolate hard shell, Alec’s Culture Cup is the first and only probiotic and prebiotic ice cream cup on the market.
I discovered Alec’s Ice Cream after seeing its promotional material for Culture Cup on TikTok — and after trying Culture Cup, I’m never looking back. It’s the perfect mix between decadent traditional ice cream and low-calorie options like Halo Top. I find myself reaching for Alec’s Culture Cup whenever I’m craving a late-night sweet treat.
What’s so special about probiotic ice cream?
The probiotics, of course! Alec’s Culture Cup contains live microorganisms that promote gut health and fibers to feed this bacteria, making it both probiotic and prebiotic. It is made with A2 dairy, which has protein that is easier to digest for some in comparison to A1 dairy. Some studies show that A2 dairy also helps reduce gut inflammation.
Looking past the health benefits of Alec’s Culture Cup: to me, it tastes delicious. The texture is creamier than other low-calorie ice creams out there, and the flavors taste natural. As opposed to many healthy alternatives that lack in texture and flavor, Alec’s Ice Cream doesn’t feel like a halfhearted attempt at ice cream. Truly, when you eat Alec’s Ice Cream, it feels like you are eating regular ice cream.
What are the flavors of Alec’s Culture Cup?
Alec’s Culture Cup is currently available in five flavors: Dark Chocolate Honeycomb Crunch, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Peanut Butter Cup, Mint Chocolate Cookie, and Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Each features a dark chocolate hard shell on top to complement the ice cream itself.
After trying each of the five flavors, here’s what I thought.
Dark Chocolate Honeycomb Crunch is the most innovative flavor of the bunch, and has delicious chunks of honeycomb that melt in your mouth. Madagascar Vanilla Bean is a simple yet elegant flavor, perfect for lovers of ice cream bars with a chocolate hard shell. Peanut Butter Cup has a nice balance of sweet, salty, and nutty; it’s a better version of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Mint Chocolate Cookie has small chunks of what tastes like Thin Mints, and it tastes absolutely divine. And my personal favorite: Chocolate Covered Strawberry has a lovely mouthfeel from strawberry chunks and tastes like a real strawberry.
Where can I buy this probiotic ice cream?
Alec’s Culture Cup is sold in packs of four, and is now available in Whole Foods locations nationwide. If you love probiotic sodas and are an ice cream enthusiast like me, Alec’s Ice Cream might be right down your alley.
