McDonald’s has released a stream of new products as of late. The chain started off July with its $5 meal deal, competing with other fast food’s meal bundles. But to the shock of many Grandma McFlurry lovers, McDonald’s also just released a new McFlurry this week, potentially setting a sad precedent for these rotating flavors. I tried it, along with some other exciting menu items, just to give you all the scoop on whether or not you should give them a taste for yourself.

Special-Grade Garlic Sauce

The first item McDonald’s released this month was the anime-themed sauces, partnering up with the popular show, Jujutsu Kaisen. The sauce is inspired by the Black Garlic Sauce at McDonald’s stores in Japan, and other staff writers here at Spoon have already done full reviews of the product. However, I gotta confirm — it’s really good. The sauce is tangy, with enough depth of flavor that it compliments the simplicity of the classic french fry. Absolutely my new go-to sauce!

Smoky BLT Quarter-Pounder with Cheese

Right off the bat I have to admit — I’m not the biggest fan of burgers. I tend to have a smaller appetite, so something as rich as a burger can be a lot for me. But I knew I wanted to try this quarter-pounder, especially since it's a returning item. That’s right. This was so popular after it debuted in 2022 that McDonald’s had to bring it back for a limited time! I definitely really enjoyed the concept of this, and I always love a BLT. However, the smoke in it was missing. With a little more of the signature sauce, I think this sandwich could be a real hit. But for anyone who loved this the first time around, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it just as much now.

Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry

Finally, onto the star of the show. When I first heard the concept of this McFlurry, I will admit that I was kind of confused. Kit Kat banana split? While these are two things I love, they didn’t sound particularly cohesive as one flavor. And while I still may be confused on just who came up with such an idea, I have to say — it was delicious. I’ve had my fair share of researching strange Kit Kat products as of late, and I’m happy to say this was not one of them. I was afraid of the Kit Kats falling apart in the ice cream, becoming more chocolate than vanilla ice cream with Kit Kats. But the candy held up surprisingly well! The texture added a really nice crunch to the treat.

The banana split part of the flavor was represented by strawberry-banana pieces, a favorite combination of mine. I felt like this added an additional taste to the McFlurry to keep it interesting. Adding exclusively Kit Kats just feels like a regular item on the McDonald’s menu, and considering these speciality flavors seem to be very limited, something had to add that extra oomph. The strawberry-banana did that, with a puffy consistency that kept the treat feeling light enough for summer. I would definitely get this again!
