We Tried Tastemade's "Ice Cream in a Bag" Recipe From Snapchat and It Worked

Recently, Tastemade, an online food and travel publication, posted on their Snapchat story a video titled, "Who Knew You Could Make Ice Cream In A Bag?" Intrigued, my friend and I decided to give it a go — because, you know, science.

Below is the recipe along with step by step instructions combined with our #SpoonTip notes.

In the sandwich size bag, combine cream, milk and sugar.

#SpoonTip: Add chocolate chips or peppermint extract for other flavors besides vanilla.

Step 2

Scoop ice into the galloon-sized bag half way full and pour in salt.

#SpoonTip: On our second try, we used an extra teaspoon or two and we noticed it worked faster.

Step 3

Put sealed sandwich bag in the larger bag containing ice and salt. Seal the larger bag and begin shaking. Continuously shake for about 6-10 minutes.

#SpoonTip: I shook mine faster than my friend and she started about 5 minutes before me but mine froze faster. Don't take breaks because it slows the chemical reaction. Use gloves to protect yourself from the coldness!

Step 4

Serve and enjoy!

The Finished Product

I have to admit I was a little skeptical if this food experiment would work. My favorite was our bag that we added chocolate chips to — it actually tasted like chocolate chip ice cream. The peppermint tasted more like mouth wash than the type of gum so we gave that one a thumbs down.
