  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter divided
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup heavy cream divided
  • 4 tablespoon bourbon divided
  • 6 ounce pitted dates
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange zest

    In a deep pot, add 1 stick of butter, corn syrup, granulated sugar, and 1 1/4 cups heavy cream. Stir to combine.

    Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until the caramel reaches a dark amber color, about 20-30 minutes.
