  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, diced pieces)
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree (chilled)
  • 3 1/2 tablespoon buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon half-and-half
  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 425°F.

  • Step 2

Whisk together all dry ingredients (first eleven ingredients listed) into a large bowl and add diced butter.

  • Step 3

In another bowl, whisk together wet ingredients (following six ingredients listed).

  • Step 4

Form dry mixture into a well and pour wet mixture into the well. Begin with stirring to mix together, then turn to kneading by hand to fully incorporate both wet and dry mixtures.

  • Step 5

Dust a work surface with flour then place dough onto surface. Shape dough into an even 8-oz. round. With a large (floured) knife, slice dough into eight equal wedges.

  • Step 6

Move scones onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Brush tops of scones with 1 Tbsp half-and-half.

  • Step 7

Bake in preheated oven for 13 – 15 minutes — until tops are golden brown and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

  • Step 8

Move scones onto wired rack and cool for exactly 10 minutes before adding glazes.
