How to Make Your Own Gluten-Free Goldfish Crackers
Remember Goldfish? AKA “the snack that smiles back.” Until recently, Goldfish did not smile back upon kids with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Although Pepperidge Farms recently developed a gluten-free goldfish alternative, it’s more like a cheese puff than a cracker, resulting in thoroughly disappointed gluten free-ers everywhere.
Anyone who knows their cheesy snacks knows the difference between their puff and cracker (#teamgoldfish). In an attempt to re-live that crunchy goldfish goodness (gluten-free edition), we found the perfect recipe, slightly adapted from thankyourbody.com. This all-natural five-ingredient, five-step recipe is guaranteed to satisfy your inner child.
#SpoonTip: Substitute your own favorite cheese and spices to experiment with your own flavor.
Gluten-Free Goldfish Crackers
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 30 minutes plus cooling time
- Servings: Approximately 5 (1 serving = 20 crackers)
- Medium
Ingredients
- 2 cup shredded cheddar and monterey jack cheese
- 4 tablespoon butter
- 3/4 cup gluten-free flour mix
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon table salt
Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Combine ingredients in a food processor. (Any food processor alternative you can think up will also do. Brownie points for getting creative.)
Step 2
Knead the dough with your hands. The heat from your hands helps the ingredients combine better.
Step 3
Shape and decorate the fish. Toothpicks or leftover takeout chopsticks are great tools to add smiles to your creations.
Step 4
Arrange the snacks on parchment paper and bake them until golden-brown. 15 minutes or so should do the trick.
Step 5
Voila! Let crackers cool and let your inner kid happy-dance to that oh-so-satisfying cracker crunch.
