How to Make Homemade Nutella With Half the Calories

Nutella is a staple in any chocolate lover’s day to day diet. Nutella’s smooth and nutty flavor is one that is adored by many, considering a jar is sold every 2.5 seconds.

Although this hazelnut spread is to die for, it is most definitely not health-conscious. This recipe contains only 50% of the calories and fat compared to store-bought Nutella.

 

Homemade Nutella

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Servings: 1 pint

Ingredients
  • 1 cup hazelnuts
  • 3/4 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 pinch of sea salt

Step 1

Preheat oven to 275°F. Spread hazelnuts on a cookie sheet and roast approximately 15 minutes.

Step 2

Remove and wrap hot hazelnuts in a kitchen towel. Cool for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Rub hazelnuts together to remove skin.

Step 4

Pulse hazelnuts in a food processor for for 3 minutes.

Step 5

Ensure hazelnuts form a butter-like consistency.

Step 6

Add chocolate chips, milk, honey and salt to a medium saucepan. Heat, on low heat, until chips are completely melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Step 7

Add chocolate mixture to food processor and pulse until well combined with hazelnut butter. Add Nutella to a glass container and place it in refrigerator to cool and thicken.

Step 8

Add to your favorite fruits, ice cream sundaes, toast. Explore the endless possibilities of Nutella– minus the guilt. Enjoy!
